Membership

Membership with the NBAPC is open to Aboriginal people living off-reserve in New Brunswick and offers a range of categories to support community engagement and leadership.

Membership Categories

Every NBAPC membership type is designed to recognize the many ways our community contributes. The cards below outline eligibility, participation rights, and key details for each category.

Voting Members

Full Membership

Open to persons of Aboriginal ancestry 16 years or older who have lived off-reserve in New Brunswick for at least six months.

  • Apply through your Community Local; final approval is issued by Head Office.
  • Applicants must be descendants of a known Aboriginal person since July 1, 1867.
  • Submit certified ancestry documents (originals are returned after copies are made).
  • Processing, approvals, and withdrawals occur within 90 days.

Full members may vote at Assemblies and Special Meetings and may hold elected office.

Family Pathways

Spousal Membership

Available to spouses of Full Members. No application is required—simply include names in the Community Local’s Annual Charter List.

Spousal members are non-voting and cannot hold office but remain integral contributors to the NBAPC community.

Supporters

Associate Membership

Designed for individuals who support the NBAPC yet do not meet Full Membership requirements. Associate members are non-voting and cannot hold office.

Future Leaders

Youth Membership

Available to children of Full Members under age 16. Youth members receive membership cards, fostering early connection to community, while voting and office-holding begin at age 16.

Beyond Borders

Non-Resident Membership

For former Full Members now living outside New Brunswick. Requires a $5 annual fee submitted by April 1.

  • Vote at the provincial level and Annual General Meetings.
  • Eligible to run for President or Vice-Chief (relocation required if elected).
  • May submit motions or resolutions for consideration.

Travel to events is self-funded unless otherwise supported by the Board of Directors.

Community Recognition

Lifetime Membership

Awarded at the AGM to Full Members whose contributions have made a lasting impact. Lifetime members retain all voting privileges. Revocation can only occur through an AGM motion.

Honouring Allies

Honorary Membership

Conferred by the Council to individuals recognized for their outstanding support of Aboriginal people. Honorary members do not hold voting rights but are celebrated for their leadership.

Community Partners

Supporting Membership

Available to individuals, businesses, churches, and organizations that champion NBAPC’s work. A $25 annual fee applies. Supporting members do not vote or hold office.

Annual Requirements

Membership Fees

  • Community locals submit an annual charter fee to Head Office.
  • All members, except Spousal, Associate, Honorary, and Lifetime, renew fees by April 1.
  • Supporting Members pay directly to Head Office; Non-Resident Members pay their local.
Member Experience
